FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions:

What clients do you see in your counseling practice?

I work with a wide variety of clients, because I have a wide variety of experience.  I specialize in working with children and youth, though I often work with parents and families, as well.  I have an elementary education degree.  I taught third grade for 2 years.  I homeschooled my own children for 12 years.  For 6 years, I worked for the University of Missouri helping teens with disabilities prepare for their transition out of high school.  While working, I finished my Master's in Counseling at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.  I started counseling at a local private school in 2019, and in January of 2022, I started in private practice.

Where is your counseling practice located?

My counseling practice is located on the square in Liberty, Missouri.  I work within the Red Door Counseling group at 19 N Water Street, Suite 1.  While I definitely prefer meeting in person, I also offer telehealth services and can meet with clients in Missouri online.

Do I have to live in Missouri to sign up for your counseling services?

Yes.  I am licensed by the state of Missouri and can only work with clients who reside in Missouri.

What insurance do you take?

I accept a variety of payments, including HSA and private pay.  I am currently enrolled with BCBS and Aetna, and I am continually working on adding additional inurances...so, ask when you call!

What is your counseling approach?

I use an ecclectic approach, pulling from multiple theories of counseling.  I don't believe one size fits all in the world of counseling and mental health.  I am continually researching and learning about new approaches, so that I maintain an updated knowledge base on strategies that are proven to be successful.

Currently, I offer talk-therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and a humanistic, person-centered therapy approach.  I also offer faith-based counseling.

How much do you charge for counseling?

I charge $100 for an hour-long counseling session.  Occasionally, I will offer 30 minute mini-sessions for existing clients for $50 upon request.

What should I expect if I come to a counseling session?

The first counseling session is a time for me to get to know you, to assess needs and to determine a plan of action.  It is also a time for you to get to know me and decide if I am a good fit for your counseling needs.

You can expect a warm environment and a judgment free, empathetic listener.

After our meeting, I will send you a diganosis and related treatment plan that outlines the goals and content  for future sessions.  I will also recommend frequency of meetings (weekly, every other week or monthly), which we can discuss, as needed.

What if I can't make my counseling appointment?

I try to be flexible and give grace for the chaos of life.  However, it is essential that I use my time wisely, in order to manage a large load of responsibility.  If you cannot make your counseling appointment, please contact me as soon as possible.  I will cancel for free with 24-hour advance notice.  I will also cancel for free one-time for emergencies.  l will charge $50 for the second last-minute cancellation or no-show and $100 for any following last-minute cancellations or no-shows.
